More devolution deals have come to a standstill this week due to the Government’s insistence that the transfer of powers and funding be accompanied by an elected mayor. Following North Somerset Council’s rejection of the West of England deal last week, Cheshire and Warrington’s devolution offer has been “put on hold” by the local authorities, and Labour MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, Justin Madders moved a debate on the subject in the Commons.
