Following a small setback last week when Labour MP for Warley, Jon Spellar raised a formal objection to its ratification, the West Midlands Combined Authority order has now been agreed by Parliament and is awaiting the signature of Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark. John Spellar raised concerns about a directly elected mayor and whether Warwickshire, Telford and Shropshire planned to join the WMCA, but acknowledged that the plans would be voted through eventually anyway and said he just wanted to encourage MPs to “pause for thought”.
