Devo-housing report finds “clear desire” for greater consistency

The Smith Institute has published Devo-housing, a report analysing housing, planning and regeneration in the 11 current devolution deals. It finds widespread support among stakeholders for the devolution of housing and planning to English regions. However, there is a “clear desire” from combined authorities for greater consistency, powers and resources for housing and planning policy in order to meet local need. In particular, combined authorities would like to see “a single long-term devolved funding pot” for housing, rather than separate arrangements for different deals, each with “strings attached”. It has been co-authored by the former Shadow Cabinet Minister for Housing and Planning, John Healey, and the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson. It was launched at a Devo Connect event in Parliament.
