In an interview with Bdaily, the regional business news magazine, the Communities Secretary, Sajid Javid has said that “big opportunities lie ahead for the Tees Valley”. Promising to work closely with local government authorities, he reaffirmed the Government’s aims to bring increased housebuilding investment and “push economic growth” through the introduction of devolution deals, such as that agreed in Tees Valley. He promised to “strengthen bonds between people within our communities”, saying that the vote to leave the EU revealed “tensions”. He pointed to the introduction of train manufacturing in Aycliffe, a new potash mine near Whitby and increased investment in local roads and rail as reasons for “local optimism”.
