The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has received its first payment of over £36 million pounds as part of its devolution deal. Marking the occasion, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid said that now was the time to “fire up the Midlands Engine”, with the first payment as “proof that [the Government] will equip [local people] with what they need to fire up the Midlands engine – the ability to boost long-term growth, create jobs, improve skills and invest in transport and innovation.”
